Aged care worker George Warusam is Aurukun Shire Council’s Deadly Employee of the Year and Administration Manager Rhonda Jolliffe is the Volunteer of the Year for 2018.
Aurukun Shire Council Mayor Dereck Walpo congratulated the winners and runners-up, and thanked the many Council employees who had been nominated for their strong work ethic.
“George Warusam is a dedicated employee who was nominated by four different people for his outstanding operational support work at the Chivaree Aged Care, Disability Services and Respite Centre,” he said.
“A valued member of the team, George is compassionate and personable with the Centre’s clients.
“He is an active member of the Defence force and is currently assisting with the cadets program in Aurukun. George gives of his time willingly and volunteers at numerous community functions.
“Two employees from Parks and Gardens, Nick Pootchemunka and Patrick Bell, came second and third.
“Volunteer of the Year Rhonda Jolliffe is at every Council event handing out packs or buttering bread for our annual celebrations including Aurukun Day, the River to Ramp Run, community concerts and Anzac Day.
“She takes the lead and coordinates other volunteers to ensure a successful outcome for the community.”
Runners-up for the Volunteer awards are Stephanie Waters from Records Management and Katherine Dallachy, the Assistant Manager at Koolkan Child Care.
Winners were announced each quarter with the fourth quarter awards also announced at the ceremony today. Playgroup Educator Anita Thompson is the winner for September-December, with Purchasing Officer Russell Wheeler coming second and Financial Accountant Jenny Browne, third.
Cr Walpo thanked the many sponsors who made the Aurukun Shire Council Deadly Awards possible, including Skytrans which donated a flight to the 2018 Deadly Employee.
“The Deadly Awards are an initiative to celebrateAurukun Shire Council’s 40thanniversary and we will continue to run them each year to reward our hard-working employees and volunteers,” he said.
