Mayor’s Christmas Message

by | Dec 22, 2021 | Uncategorized

Christmas Greetings,

I write to you in the spirit of Christmas and of goodwill.

A time when we all reflect on a child that was born in a manger and the story of the wise men bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh and their search for the baby Jesus, the promised child. A beautiful reminder of why we celebrate Christmas.

Christmas is a time of giving and searching, it is the time to spread love, peace and joy.  This season we will give our time to our loved ones & friends, we will give out gifts and hugs or give someone a seat at our table, there are so many things that we can give.

We will search within ourselves the answers we seek to move forward in life, how can we be happy or how can we overcome sadness? Some of us will not want to be where we are right now, but I encourage you to have hope and be kind. Good things will come.

I would like to personally acknowledge you and your family for the important roles you have as community members, in my first letter to you all I addressed issues that impact upon us and the community, I personally thank you for receiving it and taking my written words into account.  Change only happens when we allow it to.

A change in attitude leads to a change in behaviours which then has a positive impact on oneself.

We must be in the business of making changes, big or small, to do this we need to focus on our own self first along with our families. In this why we make a big difference in our lives and our community for generations to come.

I would like to thank you for respecting your neighbour and for times when we are in ‘sorry business’. Let us keep this up.

I encourage everyone to continue showing kindness to others and patience to our fellow community members and especially to those that live among us to work here, they have left their families to be here.

May we continue to usher in joy and peace, may we share and laugh with our neighbours and look after each other, this is the true spirit of Wik, Wik Waya and Kugu people!

2021 certainly was a trying year for most of us but we’ve seen it through, 2022 is fast approaching, the future is what we make it!!  I am proud of how far we have come. Thank you!

And with that I remind everyone once again about the greatest gift that was given to us, the baby Jesus.

From myself and on behalf of the Councillors,

I wish you all a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

God Bless.

Mayor Keri Tamwoy
