Building Construction & Maintenance


Council is contracted to provide maintenance for social housing properties in Aurukun.  This maintenance agreement provides employment opportunities for Council employees and also sub-contractors in the Shire.  The expected social housing refurbishment is expected to be $3.0M in the 16/17 Financial year.

Council will also undertake a number of projects including the Refurbishment of the Council Chambers.  The chambers and adjoining administrative offices will be repainted, floor coverings replaced and some new internal partitioning.  Visitors to our Council Chambers will find the meeting room and offices a comfortable and bright environment.  Externally, this building will also receive some maintenance in facia, guttering and fly over roofing at both entrances.  Technology and air conditioning units that are out dated will be removed.

Council has also planned safety and security upgrades a the Council Depot and Contractors Accommodation at the Airport.  The approved investment for these upgrades is $500,000.  Installation of a surgery facility in the dog pound building will also be completed.  Upgrades to the Wuungkam Lodge will be completed with a project cost of $260000.  The Mechanics Workshop at the Works Depot will also be extended to assist the staff in provision of additional and appropriate space to maintain the Council vehicle and plant fleet.

Surveys are also being conducted in a number of locations for future residential housing, industrial and commercial needs of the Shire.
